From Digital Spy:

Kids Choice awards come to the UK

Kids channel Nickelodeon is to stage a UK version of its Kids Choice Awards.

The awards, now in their 20th year in the US, will be held live in London later this year.

This year's US awards ceremony was held at the Pauley Pavilion in Westwood, California on March 31.

The star-studded show featured host Justin Timberlake involved in on-stage 'gunging' and pranks with the likes of Mandy Moore, Vince Vaughn, Tobey Maguire, and Steve Carell. It will air on Saturday 14 April at 10am and Sunday April 15 at 4pm.

According to Nickelodeon UK's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards 2007 stunt, KCA Mission, which was presented by Nickelodeon UK's current presenters Ed Petrie, Sy Thomas, Ugly Mark Felgate, and Laura Hamilton, Nickelodeon UK presenter Ed Petrie will be presenting the first ever Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards UK.

'Magic Roundabout' returns to UK screens

From Digital Spy:

'Magic Roundabout' returns to UK screens

Nick Jr. has picked up the rights to a remake of the classic children's TV show The Magic Roundabout.

Ermintrude and Zebedee will reappear on UK television screens in 52 episodes of computer generated animation. Each episode will run for 11 minutes and will be produced by Films Action of Paris and Silver Fox Films of London.

"The original Magic Roundabout TV series was a charming cultural phenomenon which entertained generations of children," Nickelodeon UK managing director Howard Litton told Broadcast. "The beautiful CGI animated adventures are sure to be a big hit with today's discerning young viewers."

No transmission dates are available at present but the new series has been officially unveiled at MipTV.

Nickelodeon International gets Creepie

From C21 Media:

Nickelodeon gets Creepie

MIP NEWS: LA kids firm Taffy Entertainment has closed a major new deal with Nickelodeon International covering both broadcast and licensing and merchandising rights for animated series Growing Up Creepie.

From early 2008, Nickelodeon will begin rolling out the 28x22' series across its channels in Asia-Pacific, Europe and Latin America after securing the broadcast rights to the show.

But the deal also names Nickelodeon as Taffy's L&M agent in markets including the UK, Germany, Benelux, Japan and Australia. It will also handle video gaming in France.

Taffy will continue to handle L&M in the rest of the world, with the exception of the US, where Discovery Channel holds the broadcast and L&M rights.

The show takes an irreverent look at adolesence through the eyes of Creepie Creecher, a young girl abandoned as a baby and raised by a family of bugs. Currently on air in the US on the Discovery Kids Channel, it is produced by Mike Young Productions and Discovery Kids, in association with DAG Entertainment, Sunwoo Entertainment/Peach Blossom and Telegawl Teoranta.

New deals for Edgar & Ellen

From C21 Media:

New deals for Edgar & Ellen

Terrible twins toon Edgar & Ellen is extending its international footprint with new broadcast deals in Norway, Israel, Spain and Canada, deals secured by Cake Entertainment and Bardel Entertainment.

Cake, run by MD Genevieve Dexter, has brokered Edgar & Ellen broadcast deals with pubcaster NRK in Norway and pay-TV firm Noga Communications in Israel, which operates The Children's Channel.

LUK Internacional has also acquired all rights to the TV series in Spain, Portugal, and Andorra and will serve as a specialised distribution partner. Bardel Entertainment, meanwhile, has sold the show to SRC in Canada.

Since last year’s MipTV, broadcasters have picked up all English-speaking territories to the toon, including the US (Nicktoons Network), Canada (YTV), UK (Nickelodeon UK) and Australia (ABC Kids, Nickelodeon). Nickelodeon International will also air the show in nine countries.

The upcoming Edgar & Ellen series produced by Chicago's Star Farm Productions is set to premiere on Nicktoons Network in the US in August and on YTV in Canada in September.

Viacom lassoes Yahoo! for online ads

From C21 Media:

Viacom lassoes Yahoo! for online ads

Viacom has handed Yahoo! a three-year contract under which the internet company will provide sponsored search and contextual ads across its 33 broadband sites, including MTV.com, VH1.com and Nickelodeon.com.

The tie-up was announced yesterday against the backdrop of Viacom's ongoing US$1bn lawsuit against YouTube parent Google. The company denied the decision to go with Yahoo! was influenced by this.

"Yahoo! has made impressive strides with its new search marketing system," said Viacom president and CEO Philippe Dauman. "We couldn't be more pleased to have them as a partner and we look forward to growing our relationship even more over time."

The deal includes other popular Viacom websites, such as those of the Comedy Central and BET channels, and the company said that it may well be extended to include a further 140 others around the world.

Howard Litton upped to Nickelodeon UK boss

From C21 Media:

Litton upped to Nick UK boss

In the UK, Nickelodeon has promoted Howard Litton to run the kids channel, taking over from David Lynn, who was recently appointed executive VP and MD of MTV Networks UK.

Litton, who is currently senior VP, general manager and director of channels at Nickelodeon UK, will be responsible for all of Nickelodeon UK's operations. This includes five TV channels, three websites and a mobile channel that covers the Nickelodeon, NickToons and Nick Jr brands.

In his new role as MD, Litton will report to the Nickelodeon UK board, which comprises the broadcaster's joint-venture partners BSkyB and MTV Networks.

A spokeswoman at Nickelodeon declined to comment on whether Litton's number two - VP and programming director Debbie McDonald - would be elevated to his former role. "Howard will remain closely involved with the creative side of the business with Debbie and Peter Drake (VP and creative director)," she said.

Lynn added: "Howard is absolutely the best man for the job. He has extraordinary passion for the kid’s TV industry and his wealth of experience will prove vital in leading the UK’s number one kids television network."

Litton joined Nickelodeon in 1995 and during his tenure has helped steer the network from a single channel to become the multiple award-winning number one commercial kids’ TV network in the UK.

A Record-Breaking 40+ Million Votes are Cast by Kids Across Nick's Digital Platforms; Nick.com Scores Its Highest Traffic Day Ever; and 1 Million Votes Cast in First Ever Virtual Sliming

NEW YORK – April 2, 2007 – A big, slime-induced viewership record was set Saturday, March 31, (8-9:30 p.m. ET/PT) during the live telecast of Nickelodeon's 20th Annual Kids' Choice Awards (KCAs) hosted by Justin Timberlake. Despite competition from the NCAA Men's Final Four, this year's event was the most watched ever with kids 2-11, kids 6-11, tweens 9-14 and total viewers (P2+). The 2007 KCAs also set a new record with kids 6-11 as the highest rated ever, and secured double-digit ratings increases among kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14 over last year. In addition, more kids voted than ever this year, with a record of 40 million votes on Nick.com, Nicktropolis, TurboNick and Nick Mobile.

The show delivered a huge 14.0/2.8 million kids 6-11, up +11% versus last year and by far the highest ever. The show was also a huge hit with Tweens (9-14), delivering a 12.5 coverage rating (+12% over 2006), and the most tween viewers (2.6 million) ever. Kids 2-11 scored a 10.3/3.4 million the most viewers ever for the demo. Tweens 9-14 delivered a 12.5 coverage rating, a +12% bump over last year. And 2.6 million tweens tuned to set a viewership record. Over 6.1 million total viewers, on average, watched the show, an increase over last year's record performance by +3%*.

This year's Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards generated a record-breaking 40.8 million votes, +54% in 2007 versus the prior year, in a total of 16 categories on Nick.com and via cell phones by wireless text messaging, March 5 to March 31. The event on March 31 boosted Nick.com to its highest traffic day ever, with 1.6 million unique visitors and more that 25.5 million page views. Kids also cast more than 1 million votes on Nick's digital platforms on March 31 for the first ever virtual sliming, which featured Vince Vaughn.

Throughout the month of March, more than 1 million kids visited Nicktropolis' virtual Kids' Choice Awards themed world where they could stroll down the Orange Carpet, check out the KCA Control Room, and create their own Kids' Choice branded room. The day of the KCAs, March 31, garnered 431,000 unique visitors alone. Almost 12 million of the total KCA votes were cast on Nicktropolis through the virtual world voting booths, with the remaining votes casted on Nick.com, TurboNick and Nick Mobile. In addition, TurboNick, Nickelodeon's broadband video service on Nick.com, served as the fully interactive home of the 20th Annual Kid's Choice Awards featuring a three-hour live simulcast event hosted by Nickelodeon's ME:TV's Alex and Jordan, which garnered 160,000 streams.

Kids' Choice Awards: Best of the Mess, a 30-minute program of highlights, will air Tuesday, April 3 at 5 p.m., Thursday, April 5 at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, April 7 at 12 p.m. and Sunday, April 8 at 5:30 p.m. (all times are ET/PT). Kids can also catch a half-hour version of the awards show this week on TurboNick.com, Nickelodeon's broadband video service on Nick.com.

Nickelodeon's 20th Annual Kids' Choice Awards, featured stars of TV, movies, music and sports with first time host Justin Timberlake. Music superstars/platinum selling recording artists Gwen Stefani, featuring Akon, and Maroon 5 had the audience and viewers alike on their feet with hit performances.

Kids Cast Record-Breaking 40 Million Votes for Their Favorites in 16 Categories

Nickelodeon Breaks Slime Barrier, Soaks Eight Stars

Vince Vaughn Drenched in First Interactive Sliming; Justin Timberlake, Mandy Moore, Jackie Chan, Tobey Macguire, Chris Tucker, Steve Carell – and Hundreds of Kids – Get the Goo, Too

World Record Set in Jaw-Dropping Bungee Jumping Slime Stunt

Los Angeles, Calif. – March 31, 2007 – Adam Sandler, Dakota Fanning, Beyoncé, Queen Latifah, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, American Idol and Harry Potter are among those who nabbed coveted orange Blimps at Nickelodeon's 20th Annual Kids' Choice Awards, in a live telecast featuring the hottest stars of TV, movies, music and sports, Saturday, March 31 (8-9:50 p.m. ET/tape delay PT). Kids reigned and slime blanketed this year's star-studded, anything goes kudos/mess-fest at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, hosted for the first time by Justin Timberlake, who also clinched Favorite Singer. Unrelenting, super-sized slime-bursts made the day sublime, breaking the slime barrier and soaking stars – and hundreds of kids -- at the biggest, loudest, messiest spectacle in the show's history. To absorb all the fun, Nick treated kids to 20 magical minutes more.

Topping last year's record by over 13 million votes, more than 40 million kids cast votes March 5-31 in 16 categories to honor their favorites. And for the first time, voters could choose to use any of Nickelodeon's digital platforms including Nick.com, Nicktropolis and TurboNick or to text in their votes via cell phones.

Tally yielded Favorite Movie Actor for Adam Sandler (Click), who won that honor in 2003 and 2005 as well as a Wannabe Award in 2004; and Favorite Movie Actress for Dakota Fanning (Charlotte's Web). Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest seized treasured Favorite Movie award, while Happy Feet ran away with Favorite Animated Movie (Orlando Bloom and Nicole Kidman respectively accepted). Former Wannabe Award winner Queen Latifah (2005) clinched a Blimp as Favorite Voice in an Animated Movie (Ice Age: the Meltdown). SpongeBob SquarePants absorbed honors for the fifth consecutive year as Favorite Cartoon and also scored for Favorite Video Game (SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab). Top TV awards went to American Idol as Favorite Show and to last year's winner Drake Bell (Drake & Josh) and to Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana) as Favorite Actor and Actress. Shaquille O'Neal netted his fourth Blimp for Favorite Athlete (1995, 1997 & 2000). In music, host Justin Timberlake triumphed as Favorite Male Singer, while Beyoncé nabbed Favorite Female Singer honors; her Irreplaceable won for Favorite Song and Black Eyed Peas got the nod for Favorite Group. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling notched Favorite Book honors.

An unprecedented triple-star slime-fest opened the show, with green goo thoroughly soaking Mandy Moore, Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker. Before long, kids and stars alike joyfully weathered slime showers throughout the telecast. Tobey Maguire got down and messy, and craving a sliming, host Timberlake and Steve Carell turned green with glee.

Absorbing the spirit of Nick for the show's climactic barrier-breaking star sliming, Vince Vaughn also made history by reaping the rewards of the first-ever interactive sliming: Viewers voted on nick.com for a stunning, goo-gushing mode and sat back for the real-time spectacle.Their three choices: blowing out a section of the house with slime, hence dousing hundreds; having an elephant suck all the excess slime out of the house and blow it out his trunk; or activating a huge geyser under the stage. The latter won out and with it Vaughn joined a fraternity of venerated stars who have sloshed through KCA history including Jack Black, Robin Williams, Johnny Depp, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, James Earl Jones, Rosie O'Donnell, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller.

Wowing the crowd and setting a world record with a never-before-attempted slimy feat, daredevil stuntman Ron Jones bungee jumped from a height of 225 feet and plunged into a bucket of Nickelodeon's signature green slime 12-feet in diameter and five feet deep. Ryan Seacrest provided colorful commentary for this sixth World Record Slime Stunt.

In a show highlight, The Wannabe Award, an annual honor bestowed on a celebrity role model who kids most "want to be," was presented to Ben Stiller by last year's Kids' Choice Awards host, Jack Black.

The sixth annual burp contest resounded with a terrific new twist, as Kenan Thompson announced that two-time Burp Award winner Timberlake had a worthy opponent: all the kids in the audience! And the kids pumped up the volume to an all-time high. Past proud Burp Award winners include Cameron Diaz, Jessica Alba and Steve Irwin (shared honor), Justin Timberlake (two-time winner) and Hugh Jackman.

The star-studded telecast featured celebrity participants including Will Ferrell, Nicole Kidman, Orlando Bloom, Dakota Fanning, Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Steve Carell, Queen Latifah, Zac Efron, Bindi Irwin, Hilary Duff, Jessica Alba, Jamie Lynn Spears, George Lopez, Jon Heder, Chris Evans, Chris Tucker, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, Tobey Maguire, Jackie Chan, Mandy Moore, Drake Bell, Emma Roberts, Jesse McCartney, Nelly, Ciara, Shia LaBeouf, Hayden Panettiere, Ice Cube, Masi Oka, Ty Pennington, Tyler James Williams, Rihanna, Devon Werkheiser, Lil' JJ, Nat Wolff, Alex Wolff, Chris Brown, Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants) and Ryan Sheckler.

Grammy Award-winning superstar Gwen Stefani ignited the kid crowd with the hit title song from her new album, "The Sweet Escape" also featuring popular singer-songwriter Akon. Grammy Award-winning rock-soul band Maroon 5 also rocked the house with their brand-new single "Makes Me Wonder" from their forthcoming album "It Won't Be Soon before Long," performing it for the first time live on TV.

TEENick's J. Boogie and Victoria Justice (Zoey 101) kicked off the night with a unique star-studded two-hour pre-show telecast, Countdown to the Kids' Choice Awards, featuring a musical performance by Drake Bell and Orange Carpet arrivals/interviews interlacing programming from 6 to 8 p.m. ET/PT. An episode of SpongeBob SquarePants capped the 9 p.m. hour at 9:50 p.m. The entire awards telecast will encore Sunday, April 1 at 1 p.m., and Kids Choice Awards: Best of the Mess, a 30-minute program of highlights, will air Tuesday, April 3 at 5 p.m.; Thursday, April 5 at 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 7 at 12 p.m. and Sunday, April 8 at 5:30 p.m. (all times are ET/PT).
