Adams, MA Native Set To Return To His Hometown In Peppa Pig LIVE!: Peppa Pig's Big Splash

Adams, Massachusetts native, actor and Emmy Award-winning broadcaster, Evan M. Pinsonnault, will return to a regional stage next month, though many of his friends and fans might not immediately recognize him.

Pinsonnault, who's known by his stage name, Evan Michael, is currently playing the roles of "Daddy Pig," "Mr. Bull" and "Danny Dog" in the interactive musical live show, Peppa Pig LIVE!: Peppa Pig's Big Splash, inspired by the characters and stories from the popular British animated children's television show. In the U.S., the program airs on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.

The stage show splashes down in Springfield for the final performance in its spring 2017 tour at Symphony Hall in Springfield at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 7. This is the show's first tour through the U.S. and Canada, and Pinsonnault has previously toured with the production across more than 90 international cities.

Pinsonnault is a 2001 graduate of Hoosac Valley High School, where he performed in a number of theatrical productions. He is the son of Bernie Pinsonnault and stepson of Dianne Cutillo of Adams and of Jan Charbonneau and Stan Spencer of Lenox. When he is not touring, the actor resides in Los Angeles and has also enjoyed gigs as a comedian, television anchor and broadcaster, show host, and writer.

In a September 2016 interview with Georgia arts and entertainment publication, "DoSavannah," Pinsonnault said his career has been inspired by his hometown region.

He told the interviewer, "I grew up in western Massachusetts in Berkshire County. It's such a great community for the arts. ... I just remember all these great times of going to see live theater at such a young age."

After graduating from George Washington University with a degree in political science and theater, Pinsonnault earned a master's degree in broadcasting and communication from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. He began his career as a television reporter and anchor, working in upstate New York, Washington, D.C., Georgia and Michigan, while performing in theatrical productions on the side. While in Michigan, he created, produced and hosted a variety program, The Evan Michael Show, which prompted his move to L.A., to further explore opportunities on stage and screen.

Tickets to see Peppa Pig LIVE!: Peppa Pig's Big Splash at Symphony Hall in Springfield can be purchased on Ticketmaster. VIP party upgrade packages are also available for purchase on cidEntertainment.com.

Charlotte, NC Voiceover Artist Lends Voice To New Preschool Series "Becca's Bunch"

She tried for years to hide her voice. Then she made a career out of it.

Lisa Biggs is a 36-year-old woman with an asymmetrical haircut; when she takes her shoes off, you can see the tattoos on her feet. But the voice that comes out of her mouth sounds like an 8-year-old girl: high-pitched and squeaky, with the vocal timbre of a grade-schooler asking for an extra carton of chocolate milk. Biggs spent years trying to disguise that voice, but these days it pays her rent: she makes her living as a professional voiceover artist.

The Wild Bunch: The cast of Becca's Bunch. Via JAM Media

Standing in bare feet in the Concentrix Music studio in the Cotswold area of Charlotte, wearing jeans and a gray V-neck sweater, Biggs is recording dialogue for the brand-new cartoon Becca’s Bunch, slated to debut on Nickelodeon USA this fall, followed by a roll out onto Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. channels internationally soon after. Biggs plays six of the seven children in a Rabbit family, plus the mom, Lola Bunny. A producer of the show is listening to her from Ireland via an Internet line, giving Biggs feedback and explaining where her dialogue fits into the plot.

Every time Biggs reads a line, she performs it three times, offering minor variations so the producers have options to choose from. “Where is that float?”: bubbly but confused. “Where is that float?”: even more enthusiastic. “Where is that float?”: slightly breathless. Then the producer asks Biggs to be “more projective,” so she does it three more times.

As she records a sustained peal of laughter that begins as giggles but builds to a crescendo of hysterical yelps, Biggs gestures with her left hand, like she's the conductor of her own voice. Then she grins and asks her long-distance producer, “Do you need more? I’m in it to win it.”

Voiceover artist Lisa Biggshas done voices for many characters including a guest spot on the Simpsons; her newest work is voicing several bunnies for a Nickelodeon series. Photo: Diedra Laird

To play the Rabbit children, Biggs uses a minor variation on her usual high-pitched speaking voice, but for the older Lola Bunny, she shifts her timbre into something huskier. “I love this voice,” she declares between takes. “I’m going to talk like this for the rest of the day. Isn’t it soothing? I’ll come and read you some poetry later.”

So what separates a professional voice artist from a civilian who sounds mellifluous on the phone?

You may already have heard her

Biggs has been the voice of everything from fuzzy toys (many, including Hasbro’s Furreal Friends) to victims of videogame zombies (a trailer for the game The Dying Light). She’s played Charlie Brown in a Peanuts iPhone app and the Care Bear Wonderheart in American Greetings commercials. In recent years, she’s branched out to directing kids (most recently, a series of Toys R Us radio ads) and founding Voxy Ladies, a professional association for voiceover women (Biggs says she sold it last year so she could focus on her own career). She’s hoping to expand into the “radio imaging” business, where she gives radio stations their identity by recording their promo spots. Biggs says, “In the inner circle of working professional voice talent, you’ve got some guys that make five, six million dollars a year or more.” Members of that elite club include the top movie-trailer voices and the cast of The Simpsons.

Lisa Biggs is also the voice of BeatBelle, a Fisher-Price toy, and Harley, a little boy featured in promotions for the international tech company Hisense.

“And then you have people like me: I live in Charlotte, I drive a Volkswagen.”

Voice acting is like any other form of acting, Biggs told the Charlotte Observer: “There’s an ‘it’ factor. Some people are naturally good at it. I’m not saying that to dash anybody’s hopes – if you want it bad enough and yield to the training, everyone has the capacity to manufacture ‘it.’ ”

“It” didn’t seem like a blessing for Biggs when she was growing up in Lancaster, South Carolina, daughter of a fireman and a preschool teacher.

She tried to hide it

Other kids called her names – “Squeaky, Smurfette, Beaker, Minnie Mouse” – and accused her of speaking in a high-pitched voice just for attention. She stopped speaking in class: “I made OK grades, but I bet if I actually participated I would have had a better GPA,” she says. When she had to give an oral presentation in a high-school biology class, she thought she could disguise her voice by adopting a strong Southern accent – a huge mistake, since she not only didn’t fool anybody, she confirmed the suspicions of classmates who thought she was faking.

“I tried to mimic other people and the way that they talked, mostly their cadence. I had to think about tempo and volume and pitch,” Biggs remembers. She wanted to be a marine biologist, but unwittingly, she was training for a voiceover career.

When Biggs was an undergraduate at Lee University, people would occasionally tell her that she should look into voiceover work, which she resisted, thinking it as likely a career choice as becoming an astronaut. But when she saw a brochure for an acting school in New York that included a class on voice work, she enrolled for the summer session. She learned a lot, but she also found that even in acting school, her voice provoked hostility. One teacher told her: “You need to quit this little-girl-voice act before you’re 30. Nobody buys it.” Another informed her that she spoke like that because of childhood trauma and her voice had frozen at that age.

Nevertheless, after college graduation she headed to Los Angeles to try her luck at voice acting.

Then she found the ‘dude’

She got her SAG card and some tattoos – “because that’s what you do,” she jokes – and even had a supporting role on one episode of The Simpsons (playing a boy Lisa Simpson had a crush on). But she wasn’t making a living from her voice. And when she tried networking with an older voiceover actor at a convention, she says, he just leered at her and said derogatory remarks.

Biggs returned to Charlotte in 2006, planning to go to graduate school or enter a youth ministry. But her return coincided with a shift in the voiceover world: The industry had decentralized, and the Internet had made it possible to do sessions in cities other than L.A. Biggs hired a manager and gradually built up her career.

Biggs developed a range of voices, from a teenage girl to a sassy old lady. Her second-most popular voice is a little girl, but the voice she gets hired to do most often is a young boy. She started off trying to do a gravelly boy voice, like Milhouse on The Simpsons, but quickly found that it hurt her throat too much. Instead, she tapped into a character she calls “Liam”: a swaggering skateboard kid in the mode of 1990s preteen idol Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

“It starts with posture and body language,” Biggs explains. “When I’m in the booth and I’m Liam, I’m doing what I see my nephew do at his wrestling matches. He cannot stand still because he’s got all this energy. If you look at the sound waves, the boy voice is louder: I’m pushing more air out.”

The line that helps Biggs get into the headspace of Liam: “See ya later, dude.” She says that mantra and snaps into character: “Cool, game on, what do you need?” Producers know that if Biggs is slipping out of Liam mode – maybe after an audiobook session has gone on for hours and she’s exhausted – all they need to say to snap her back into it is “See ya later, dude.”

“The question of the distinct voice versus the character actor is really interesting,” says Phil LaMarr, a top-tier voice actor whose credits include Baxter Stockman in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hermes on Futurama, the title role in Samurai Jack, and a live-action cameo on Big Time Rush. “Ultimately, acting is the key, not the voice. From what I’ve seen of Lisa, she’s got that ability to modulate—you hear that distinction between her boy voice and her girl voice, even though it’s her. To me, that’s talent.”

This is the cast of characters from “Badanamu,” a show Biggs cast, voice-directs and stars in. (She’s the voice of both Jess and Curly – the pink and purple guys on the right – as well as all three of The Three Kittens, and “a slew of additional characters.”) It’s scheduled to air in France, Spain, Australia and China, she says.

Biggs had a pleasant surprise at the Concentrix Music studio: The Becca’s Bunch producers wanted Lola Bunny to rap a song. “This is the closest I’ll ever come to being a pop star,” she squealed. “I’ll just savor the moment.” Told that the track sounded like J.J. Fad’s Supersonic, Biggs rapped the 1988 single from memory.

Before she laid down her vocals, Biggs said she needed to take care of one thing: To get in the right frame of mind, she needed a cool rapper name. Her producer suggested “Biggie Smalls,” but she rejected that handle as property of the Notorious B.I.G. Then her face lit up and she shouted out two words that summed up her career: “Squeaky Tones!”

PAW PATROL LIVE! to 'Race to the Rescue' at the Benedum Center, PA This May

When the PAW Patrol pups bound into action during Paw Patrol Live! “Race to the Rescue,” May 11 through 14 at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, they'll prove that “No job is too big, no pup is too small!”

Audiences will have the opportunity to join Ryder and the pups, Chase, Marshall, Skye, Rubble, Rocky, Zuma, Everest and many other friends, as they teach about leadership and teamwork.

Matt Lamb, a native of Glassport, PA and current resident of Pittsburgh, will portray the role of Mayor Humdinger in Paw Patrol Live!

Lamb, who has performed in other children’s theater productions, feels that live theater for this particular demographic is important.

“One, I think it is the experience, and two it is very gratifying for the kids. With the show I am actually able to talk to the kids in a way and interact with them and see their reactions. It is very real,” he told HeraldStandard.com. “The show is a cartoon and this is live action. It is unbelievable to hear their voices. I hear them cheering when Ryder comes out, or for the pups or the mayor. Because I am Mayor Humdinger I get a few boos. The way the theaters are they are very large houses and the kids are really into it and it is wonderful.”

The show centers around a big race that is taking place between Mayor Goodway, the mayor of Adventure Bay and Mayor Humdinger, the mayor of Foggy Bottom.

“When the show starts Ryder, who is the leader of the Paw Patrol, he comes out and greets everyone to Adventure Bay. Today is the day of the great adventure race between Mayor Goodway and Mayor Humdinger. He teaches the kids some cheers. It is very interactive. When the kids come in they get pompoms and they can cheer along with Mayor Goodway and you get to meet the pups and they come out,” explained Lamb. “You find out that Mayor Goodway is in a bit of trouble and the Paw Patrol do what they do best and help out. They have to find clues around Adventure Bay. When they find a clue Ryder reads it out loud and asks the audience to help out. They have to get to Adventure Bay before sundown. They will see a lot of familiar faces throughout adventure bay. It is basically a race to the finish.”

Jim Waters, producer for VStar Entertainment Group said, “Using Bunraku, puppetry elements are built into costumes worn by real actors to create a wonderful combination of life-sized pups and to make a stronger connection with the audience. The Paw Patrol cast sings and dances, which brings a fun, realistic parallel between the animated series and the live show.”

Humdinger serves as a character that challenges the pups.

“Mayor Humdinger is the mayor of Foggy Bottom and his very mischievous. He is a little selfish and he always has to be the best. He is a ‘win at all costs’ (type) and eventually whatever he tries backfires,” said Lamb. “He tries to be the best mayor. It is a great story of good versus bad and how doing the right thing will always be right. He does turn around after realizing, at the end of our show, a good lesson.”

For Lamb, being able to make this cartoon character come alive in front of the audience has been a great experience.

“It’s a cartoon and I like [bringing] that to life. This is the first live action tour for ‘Paw Patrol’ and I get to bring that character to life,” he said.

“I watch a lot of Paw Patrol. I want to make sure that I do my best to sound like the characters. I want to make sure I stay true to the narrative and to the cartoon character and what he does.

Tickets for “Race to the Rescue,” an inaugural partnership between VStar Entertainment Group and Nickelodeon, range between $18 to $60. There is a limited number of VIP (Very Important Pup) meet and greet ticket packages that start at $120.

To purchase go online to trustarts.org or call 415-566-6666.

“What is great (about the show) is it teaches the same lessons that are a part of the cartoon like team work and leadership and helping others,” said Lamb.

“Plus it is live theater. For a lot of kids it may be their first experience for live theater. What I hope is that it installs in them the want to see more and to enjoy the arts,” he said.

Nickelodeon Netherlands Commissions "De Ludwigs" Season 2

Hot on the heels of Nickelodeon USA announcing that it had renewed its adventure-comedy series Hunter Street for a 20-episode Season 2, Nickelodeon Netherlands (Nederland) has also announced that it has commissioned a second season of De Ludwigs, the Dutch counterpart of Hunter Street!

Both De Ludwigs season two and Hunter Street season two will be produced back-to-back in Amsterdam later this summer, with Nickelodeon Benelux starting to premiere episodes from De Ludwigs season two on Nickelodeon Nederland and Nickelodeon Belgium (België) during Fall 2017.

De Ludwigs is the only series of Dutch origin which has an international version, Hunter Street, in production at the same time.

The news follows the success of De Ludwigs season one, which debuted on Nickelodeon Benelux in May 2016, and the recent 8-part De Ludwigs special De Ludwigs - Wie is de dief?.

De Ludwigs is an adventurous comedy series for kids between the ages of 6-12. The series is characterized by friendship, family, and the solving of a great family mystery. De Ludwigs follows the comedic adventures of the Ludwig family, a family of five foster children who live in an imposing Amsterdam canal house that also serves as a museum with their parents.

In the first season of De Ludwigs and the independent adventure Wie is de dief?, Tooske and Bastiaan Ragas portrayed Kate and Erik Ludwig, the parents of the Ludwigs family. The roles of the five foster children were portrayed by Timo Verbeek (Benny), Rosaline Lantink (Anoosha), Cedric van den Abbeele (Sam), Luca Hollestelle (Yara) en Yassine El Ouardi (Daniel), with Cees Geel, Kees Hulst, Arno Moens (Tim), Aliyah Kolf, Eva van der Gucht, Peter Bolhuis and Yootha Wong Loi Sing (Simone) also having roles in the series.

In addition to De Ludwigs, Tooske Ragas, Cees Geel, Kees Hulst, Yootha Wong-Loi-Sing, Aliyah Kolf, Eva van der Gucht and Peter Bolhuis also had roles in the shows English-language remake, Hunter Street.

De Ludwigs is produced by Blooming Media.

Below is Nickelodeon Nederland's official Press Release announcing the exciting news, via Nick Persinformatie:

25. April 2017

Populaire Nickelodeon-show De Ludwigs krijgt vervolg

Fans can catch Gattu Battu from Monday 1st May 2017 on Nick India!

Tapping into the homegrown content demand, Nickelodeon announces new show "Gattu Battu":

The fiscal year 2016 has been rather promising for Viacom 18’s kids’ channels. Nickelodeon has maintained its stance as the apex kids channel in the country since 2014 and joining it are other subsidiaries namely Sonic, Nick Jr and Nick HD+.

The channel receives 65 per cent of its viewership from urban areas and the remaining from the rural areas. Nickelodeon, Sonic and Nick Jr contributed to 31 per cent of the network share.

With the demand for homegrown IPs on the rise, Viacom 18 is all set to bring in India’s first ever animated investigative series for kids – Gattu Battu. Nickelodeon’s fourth made-in-India animated series Gattu Battu, is a high decibel detective action comedy series slated to release on 1 May, 2017. The show has been produced by Toonz Animation.

Gattu Battu is a story of two best friends who own an investigative and security agency in a small town called Vishrampur. While Battu is the sixth sense behind every case to be solved, his friend Gattu is the courageous and righteous one. Their hilarious and brilliant cover-ups is what forms the heart and soul of this show. Gattu and Battu are joined in their fun escapades by Ting Tong, their goofy and adorable sidekick with a flair for martial arts. They, together along with Dr. Bhatawadekar and his gadgets come together to fight the notoriously funny villain Sher Singh. The unique investigative home-grown animated show from the house of Nickelodeon is an ultimate blend of action and comedy and is sure to provide a fun filled entertainment experience for kids.

Announcing the launch Viacom18, head – kids entertainment, Nina Elavia Jaipuria said, “Nickelodeon endeavours to serve the best entertainment to its young audience. Catering to children and their evolving preferences is at the core of all our initiatives. It is this coupled with our desire to innovate that has helped us sustain our leadership in the kids’ segment since 2014. After launching three blockbuster made in India shows and creating their ecosystem, we are delighted to bring to them yet another winning series, Gattu Battu, that they will surely embrace and make a part of their daily lives.”

The expansive marketing campaign will have promotions with an extensive cross channel plan, large scale on-ground ambient engagement and interesting on-line interactivity.

There will also be on-ground initiatives like retail and mall partnerships (Phoenix, Ambience, Viviana etc), multi city promotions etc. The channel has associated with [McDonald’s] to air the show promos across 300 screens. Gattu Battu themed games, van activations in Tier 2 cities and meet-and-greets at various gaming zones such as Fun City will introduce the duo as well as allow kids to engage with the characters.

The franchise revenue has increased by 20 per cent year-on-year. Sonic’s yield increased by 40 per cent year-on-year, while Nickelodeon’s yield has spiked up by 25 per cent year-on-year. Jaipuria said that they will be launching around 15 games this summer, including ones for their newest IP.

Apart from Gattu Battu which will run seven days a week, the company will also be bringing new episodes of Ninja Hattori, for which they have collaborated with the Japanese makers, while Motu Patlu will witness new episodes this summer as well apart from its first time ever movie premiere on television. A new Motu Patlu movie is also in production titled Motu Patlu in Dragon World and we will see its release sometime in June this year. Motu Patlu is the number one show on VOOT, the company’s OTT platform.

Sonic’s three of the most renowned properties, Shiva, Oggy and the Cockroaches and Pakdam Pakdai will also be coming around with new episodes this summer.

The company is also doing pretty well in the licensing and merchandising front as its merchandising revenues went up by 40 per cent as it has its presence in 46 categories. However, as Jaipuria stated, the company took a hit of around 15 to 20 per cent owing to demonetisation, which resulted them in losing their surplus.

Another property of the franchise, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, was received quite well and the company has plans to make it bigger for the next edition.

--Ends--

Josh Peck Explains How He Turned His ‘Awkward’ Nickelodeon Years Into Social Media Gold

The 2004 Drake & Josh pilot began with one teenager's worst nightmare: walking in on their parents making out. Drake Parker promptly blows a whistle, forcing the grown-ups to jump apart. Josh Nichols then rushes into the room, brandishing a mop to defend himself. "What happened?" he gasps. "I heard screaming." Don't worry, Josh, it's just your soon-to-be stepbrother witnessing what can't be unseen.

This was Nickelodeon's hilarious introduction to a family that made fans laugh for four seasons, with Josh Peck and Drake Bell's namesake characters at the center of it all. Drake was the suave rule breaker; Josh, the lovable goof who was "about as smooth as chunky peanut butter," as young Peck described him in the original trailer.

The future siblings, being on opposite ends of Belleview High School's social ladder, had wildly different reactions when their parents announced wedding plans. "Hug me, brotha!" Josh joyfully exclaimed, wrapping a horrified Drake into a bear hug. Fast-forward to today, and this phrase remains universally quoted by fans — including MTV News' Deepa Lakshmin when she said goodbye to Peck after chatting with him last month. It's one of many D&J quips immortalized on the internet.

"You'll see something that goes slightly viral in a meme, like a particular line: 'Have a good day; don't tell me what to do,'" Peck, now 30, gave as an example. "I'll text Dan [Schneider, the show's creator] because this is literally something he wrote 13 years ago. I'll be like, 'Can you believe this, dude? Your lines are still completely loved and people are still getting a kick out of it.'"

Schneider helmed several Nickelodeon favorites, from 1994's All That to 2015's Game Shakers. Peck starred in The Amanda Show, also created by Dan Schneider, and the Nickelodeon Movie Snow Day, before D&J, establishing himself as a major actor on classic Nickelodeon. When ’90s and ’00s kids remember the stuff they grew up watching, they think of Josh and his wacky, bumbling characters on TV or in movies, like Max Keeble's Big Move, whose character wore a rocket ship–adorned robe that he never took off.
